Spectator sports

Hockey fans enjoy Ontario Hockey League action in Belleville, where the Belleville Bulls play. Trenton fans support the Trenton Sting, the local Junior A club, while the Quinte Red Devils offer Triple A action from novice to midget.

Auto racing fans can catch stock car racing at Brighton Speedway's quarter-mile track. The track is located just off County Road 64. For superb motorcycle, auto and drag strip racing, the enthusiast will head for Shannonville Motorsport Park, just east of Belleville.

Hunting and fishing

The waters of the Bay of Quinte, Trent River and Lake Ontario are favourite fishing grounds for local residents and visitors to Bay of Quinte.

Year round there are ample stocks of fish of many varieties. Species found in this area and open to regulated fishing include walleye, largemouth and smallmouth bass, northern pike, muskellunge, yellow perch, crappie, salmon, brown trout and rainbow trout.

Quinte plays host to many fishing derbies, including a large walleye tournament held annually by the Trenton Kiwanis club.

Bay of Quinte also boasts plentiful game, including wild turkey-Frankford is known as the wild turkey capital of Ontario-and deer, black bear, pheasant, ruffled grouse and spruce grouse, Hungarian partridge, sharp-tailed grouse, raccoon, fox, rabbit, and squirrel.

Waterfront activities

The Bay of Quinte, Lake Ontario, the Trent River, Weller's Bay, Oak Lake-these Bay of Quinte waterways offer excellent opportunities for recreational activities ranging from swimming through boating to fishing.

Those who prefer boating-sailing, yachting, speed boating, windsurfing-will want to take part in our many summer races and regattas, and join one of our boating clubs or association. Visit here for more information.

Boaters may also wish to travel the world-renowned Trent-Severn Waterway. Connecting Lake Ontario with Georgian Bay, its 386 kilometres of lakes, rivers and 44 locks include the largest hydraulic lift lock in the world, in the City of Peterborough.
